Here is some important information about road construction along the race course:
At Mile 7.4, you will see road construction that will cause us to detour from the normal Highway 98 course. The detour begins at Airport Road. There are D.O.T. road construction signs that will help to guide you. The first sign says DETOUR/AIRPORT ROAD and points left. Go two tenths of a mile and you will see a sign that reads DETOUR/COMMONS DR. and points to the right. Follow these two signs to finish out the first leg of the race. My advice is to drive the first leg on Friday to plan your run for race day. Instead of returning to Highway 98, our team will continue on Commons Dr. until we turn north on SR 293, which is also known as Danny Wuerffel Way. At the end of Commons Drive, once you pass Publix’s (on your left) you may cut through the parking lot and run towards Bonefish Grill. You may still use the relay stop at the end of leg #1, but it will be in the back parking lot of SunSations which is just east of Fudpucker’s. You will turn right at the second roundabout on Commons Drive and turn into the parking lot into Sunsations. All teams that are familiar with Commons Drive may use one of the parking areas on the left (north) side of the road to make your exchange. This will help with traffic congestion. PLEASE BE CAREFUL ON THE ROUNDABOUTS!!!! The 5K Recover Run is Sunday, Dec 31st at the Ramada. Please let me (Dennis) know Saturday if you and/or your team plans to attend so we can prepare.
It’s a very causal run and you pick the distance. It’s also a good chance to run on the beach and prepare for the Jan. 6th BACK PORCH JETTY RUN. Once the run is complete, we will meet poolside at the Oasis Room for post-race beverages. A $5 donation is requested for the run. Hurricane’s is located at the end of Leg #2 where White Point Road and State Road 20 intersect. They are offering special food and drink prices and the facility is open for changing clothes and the use of their rest rooms. Special prices include:
You may have heard or read that Fudpuckers on the Island is closed for remodeling. While this is true, it does NOT impact Round the Bay Relay and Ultra!
Fudpuckers on the Island WILL HOST our Friday afternoon Packet Pickup (4:30-7:00 PM) and our race day activities. The closing will have no impact on the race. The official start times for the 7th Annual Round the Bay Relay and Ultra have been posted. CLICK HERE.
The new time for packet pick-up is Friday from 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM at Fudpuckers on the Island.
The news is out that Fudpuckers on the Island will be closing. That is true BUT, they will still host our packet pickup and the race. Everything will continue as planned and the irony is, Fuds hosted our race prior to their official opening and will now host our race after they have officially closed. I guess we are the Alpha and the OMEGA for Fuds on the Island. Next year, we will have to make changes, but this year is a go. Please pass this on to all team members. 10 days to go and we are sitting at 55 teams and 20 ultra runners.
Tentative start times have been posted. CLICK HERE. Check back frequently for updates.
